    Research Associate - Metabolism


    COVANCE is a leading global drug development services company and we provide support to the Pharmaceutical, AgroChemical and Biotechnology industries. 


    We are recruiting for our analytical team with in Metabolism Harrogate and are currently seeking to hire a research associate to help conduct all work in compliance with appropriate company standards, GLP and GCP (where appropriate) and regulatory guidelines specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they are involved.


    This is a full time position, based in our site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.


    About the Job


    We are looking for a skilled and experienced scientist to provide specialist analytical support. This is a key role providing qualitative and quantitative characterization of components in a variety of matrices from in vivo and in vitro metabolism studies to support the development of both pharmaceuticals and AgroChemicals.


    Within this position, your duties will include:

    • Set up and perform a variety of assays using appropriate instrumentation (HPLC & TLC) with routine and non routine methods
    • Critically review study protocols in primary area of work and suggest changes where appropriate.
    • Provide input and participate in study meetings (ie pre-initiation meeting).
    • Maintain study documentation in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
    • Review own work for overall accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and soundness of technical judgment.
    • Deliver results within agreed timeframe, whilst recognising changes in priorities
    • Ability to write, review and revise standard SOPs related to primary area of work.
    • Ability to conduct most processes/task in support of broad portfolio of study types
    • Routinely conduct QC review of data and methodology section within reports within scope of current role
    • Ability to prepare results and presentations based on the work performed
    • Evaluate data for experiment modification and contribute to report preparation/review
    • Participate in method development and validation projects
    • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory work environment and perform routine maintenance.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.


    About You

    To be successful in this position you should:

    • Have good analytical chemistry skills with expertise in preparation and analysis of samples by HPLC and TLC
    • Have a sound understanding of chromatographic techniques
    • Be highly motivated and capable of strategic thinking in this area along with having a strong client focus
    • Have strong communication and planning/organisation skills.
    • Ideally have knowledge of Agrochemical regulatory guidelines
    • Preferably have experience of working in a regulatory environment and/or knowledge of metabolism and familiarity in the use of radiolabeled compounds
    • Have a relevant degree plus some years of appropriate experience in analytical methodology, including extraction techniques and chromatographic analysis (e.g. HPLC, TLC). Relevant experience may be substituted for academic qualifications



    Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:

    • Ability to utilise word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and specialised software on personal computers.
    • Skilled in the use of all standard laboratory equipment
