    COVANCE is a leading global drug development services company which provides support to the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Agrochemical industries. 

     

    We are currently recruiting for a Scientist within our Metabolism department at our Harrogate site, North Yorkshire.

     

    We are looking for a skilled and experienced scientist to provide specialist analytical and mass spectrometry support. This is a key role providing qualitative and quantitative characterisation of components in a variety of matrices from in vivo and in vitro metabolism studies.

     

    About the Job

    Within this position, your duties will include:

    • The extraction and LC-MS/MS analysis of samples from a number of different study types using state of the art equipment (e.g. Ion Mobility, Q-ToF and Orbitrap)
    • Working alongside Study Directors, providing interpretation and scientific reports of data generated for inclusion in regulatory documents.
    • Development of methods and troubleshooting to provide solutions to issues as they arise.
    • Effective communication of results and scientific rationale to both internal and external customers.
    • Mentoring and support of more junior members of staff.

     

    About You

    To be successful in this position, you will typically be educated to PhD or BSc/MSc in a relevant life science subject. Relevant experience may be substituted for academic qualifications.

    Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:

    • Good analytical chemistry skills with expertise in preparation and analysis of samples by LC-MS
    • A sound understanding of chromatographic techniques along with experience of compound identification by mass spectrometry methods.
    • High levels of motivation along with strategic thinking in this area
    • Strong client focus
    • Excellent communication and planning/organisation skills.
    • A flexible approach and willingness to support other colleagues in a busy environment
    • Ideally, experience of interpreting LC-MS data and report preparation
    • Preferably, experience of working in a regulatory environment and/or knowledge of metabolism and familiarity in the use of radiolabelled compounds
