    COVANCE is a leading global drug development services company and we provide support to the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries. 

     

    We are recruiting for our Central Laboratory Services in Geneva and are currently seeking to hire a Project Manager to lead automation project within our laboratory. This role is part of a growing global team with a diverse body of work, bringing technical and organizational solutions to bear for our Laboratory.  The Lab Project Manager will manage the comprehensive project lifecycle and will have responsibility for the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of one to many small, medium or large projects (including implementation of custom and off-the-shelf automation systems.)

     

    This is a full time position, based in our Meyrin/Geneva office.

     

    About the Job

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of projects assigned
      1. Responsible to create and manage detailed project plans
      2. Responsible to report project status to team, management and stakeholders through regular status reports, management reports and communications meetings
      3. Responsible to track project issues and ensure appropriate resolution working closely with the laboratory management team
      4. Responsible to hold formal project reviews with management to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction
      5. Responsible to deliver projects successfully on time and on or under budget with regularity and predictability
      6. Responsible to review project deliverables to ensure high quality
    2. Records actual labor utilization on the project and creates resource utilization forecasts
      1. Responsible to identify cross-project and initiatives resource allocation
      2. Responsible to capture and maintain record of resources needed, request appropriate resources, and ensure appropriate staffing for the duration of the project to ensure efficient and successful project completion
      3. Responsible to assist the laboratory management team to identify, qualify and document risks and to put in place appropriate mitigation strategies
    3. Assist the laboratory management team in the following aspects of project planning
      1. Project scope and change control processes
      2. Project status updates
      3. Project’s budget allocation, approval and management
    4. Acts as a trustee and steward of the chosen project management methodology by acting as a vocal advocate and continuously improving the processes, tools and templates
    5. Effectively works with a diverse group of team members from across CCLS
    6. Communicates effectively with all levels of staff and management
    7. Confronts issues openly and effectively
    8. Mentors other project managers
    9. Builds expert knowledge in project management in our industry and conveys knowledge to others
    10. Facilitates a project and team culture of continuous improvement, quality and productivity
    11. Performs such duties as the GLSS management may direct
    12. Maintain own workload balance in collaboration with peers and manager
    13. Ensure the consistent implementation, use and review of SOPs and integration guidelines
    14. Participate in Process Support or GLSS team tasks related to planning, budgeting and cross team issues
    15. Works across Covance to share lessons learned and best practices
    16. Monitor, track, manage and ensure resolution of customer complaints, issues and concerns
    17. Ensure service failures are identified, tracked and resolved in a timely manner. Take preventative action to ensure that the same service failure(s) does not occur again
    18. Effective and timely adherence to management communications, meetings and procedures
    19. Ability to travel up to 25%

    What we’re looking for

    To be successful in this position, you will need to hold a Minimum of a Bachelors degree or country equivalent with preference for engineering- or automation-related disciplines

    Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:

    • PMP certification
    • Ability to manage a minimum of three projects at one time
    • Demonstrated strong customer service skills
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
    • Strong planning, organizational and problem solving skills
    • Previous experience of driving continuous improvement
    • Demonstrated a high degree of initiative and ability to work collaboratively
    • Demonstrated experience in team building, influencing and conflict resolution
    • Proven track record of successful project completion

    Education / Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Bachelors degree or country equivalent with preference for engineering- or automation-related disciplines
    • PMP certification

    Experience

    • Required:
      • Five (5) years of automation or IT Project Management experience with two or more (2+) years of full time Project Management experience in Systems Development or Systems Implementation
      • Experience with laboratory information systems in other than operations roles
      • Experience with project management tools including Microsoft Project, Visio, and Office
      • Experience in at least one or more industry recognized Project or Development Methodologies (PMBOK, RUP, WWPMM, etc)
      • Exposure to laboratory instruments, their functionality, and lifecycle
      • Exposure to quality systems applicable to clinical laboratories (e.g. CAP, ISO 19025)
    • Preferred:
      • Demonstrated ability to manage design and delivery of automation solutions in a regulated industry, life sciences preferred
      • Formal project management education
