    What we need

     

    Covance is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Director to join our Leading Pharma, Central Labs team in Europe, this is a brand new hire for the team due to the huge success that our European team has delivered and represents and incredibly exciting opportunity for the right person to join a very successful team.

     

    The Business Development Director will be tasked with generating business from some of Europe and the World’s leading Pharmaceutical companies with the support and extensive portfolio of capabilities from within Covance Central labs and LabCorp specialist labs.

     

    The focus on personalized medicine has seen the opportunities for this role continue to grow as our clients look to Covance for solutions in Biomarkers, Genomics, CDx as well as Central Labs offering.

     

    The successful candidate will work with cutting edge, technical and analytical capabilities whilst enabling and facilitate discussions internally and externally with some of the key scientists and decision makers in our industry.     About you

     

    This position is home based and successful applicants will ideally be based in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and must have fluent English and German.

     

    We are seeking an experienced Business Development Director, with a background in a CRO, Central Lab, ideally with lab services selling experience, although we would consider candidates from other scientific backgrounds who have strong account management skills and experience of clinical trials.

     

    In addition, the ideal candidate should be able to offer:

     

    • Excellent understanding of the drug development continuum
    • Strong team player: ability to work very closely with colleagues, share leads and form highly effective collaborations
    • Significant (at least 5 years) commercial expertise, ideally in a CRO or other Life Sciences environment
    • Highly developed interpersonal skills, ability to form strong and effective relationships internally and externally
    • Ability to adapt your style and approach to different audiences internally and externally
    • Experience of presenting to executives and/or senior levels within a client organization
    • Able to work autonomously and effectively, managing your own priorities in conjunction with those of your colleagues and your clients
    • Proven ability to identify, develop and implement creative and innovative strategies that lead to effective long term client relationships
    • Experience of developing a ‘large’ account by effective networking and prospecting, building a sales pipeline, delivering creative proposals and delivering opportunities
    • Willingness to travel, around 50% of the role will include visiting clients across Europe with some travel to the US for meetings and conferences
    • Bachelors degree in life science or business field preferred
