    Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist (Harrogate)

    Covance are recruiting for our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team in Harrogate, and are currently seeking to hire an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist based at Harrogate with some travel to our York site. Covance is one of the largest private employers in Harrogate with approximately 1400 employees working in scientific research and development.     About the Role

    The role would suit a dynamic individual looking for the next step in their EHS career in a specialist sector, undertaking:


    • The delivery and review of existing programs of training and conception of future programs
    • Delivery of key health and safety concepts utilizing multiple platforms of engagement across all levels of the organization
    • Support a complex site in an advisory role on the practical implementation of Health and Safety concepts and compliance
    • Conduct routine safety walks, generate reports which recommend proportionate actions supported by legislation and its practical application
    • The oversite, drive and continual support of multiple action logs
    • Continual development of the Representative of employee safety program whilst maintaining effective cooperation through meaningful dialogue and delivery of workshops
    • Supporting incident investigation to organizational requirements ensuring compliance with defined deadlines
    • Assisting the UK-EHS Manager in meeting the annual departmental objectives


    What we’re looking for:

    The individual:


    • Self-motivated, able to acquire and develop industry specific knowledge through active engagement within a supportive environment
    • An understanding of core EHS legislation with an ability to interpret and translate into meaningful advice
    • An ability to manage and deliver EHS projects from conception to finish, with time weighted objectives
    • Ability to effectively engage with staff at all levels of the organization
    • Able to produce high quality documents and or pro formas
    • Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple programs of work





    • NEBOSH General Certificate (IOSH Managing Safely where EHS has been a substantive part of previous role)
    • Techiosh membership
    • 2 Years’ experience of working within an EHS orientated role
    • Established working knowledge of the following is essential:
      • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
      • Manual handling operations regulations 1992
      • The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992
      • The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992
      • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
      • Workplace and Welfare Regulations 1992
      • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
      • The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981


    • Knowledge of the following although not essential would be of benefit:
      • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
      • The Working at Height Regulations 2005
      • Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017
