    Project Management Leader

This is a permanent, full time position based in one of our Harrogate office. 


    Working as part of the Global Project Management Office (PMO), you will lead and develop a team of Project Managers focused on managing multi-faceted, global projects within Covance Bioanalytical. You will mentor a regional Project Management team to ensure that Client requirements and deliverables are met on time and on budget. You will also focus on developing your team members and improving the processes and structure of the PMO.



    In this position, you will be responsible for:

    • Leading a team of approximately 5-10 Project Managers on a regional basis
    • Oversight of the Project Management Office project portfolio including governance of individual projects and proposing strategic solutions through the use of project analytics
    • Assisting in defining and maintaining standards and processes integral to the successful running of the PMO
    • Providing support, training, and mentoring of members of the PMO team
    • Ensuring end to end project management encompassing effective Client communication and use of the appropriate tools to ensure the successful initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of projects
    • Presenting a vision and strategy for delivery and ensuring effective progress throughout project life cycles
    • Supporting the Project Management team with study costing and contract requests and financial tracking and reconciliation of projects
    • Participation in the review and resolution of project issues raised within the PMO

    • Industry or project management experience is required
    • A Bachelor's Degree or relevant PMO experience in lieu of degree
    • The ability to get things done by influencing others (both internal and external)
    • An up to date knowledge of regulatory guidelines is desirable
    • Accredited or working towards a Project Management certification is highly desirable
    • Strong fundamental knowledge of project management and organizational best practices
    • Ability to execute a strategy and vision with guidance from PM leadership
    • Ability to operate in ambiguous situations
    • Experience handling challenging client situations (conflict management)
    • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to develop employees
    • Experience with processes improvement; facilitating root cause analysis and design of corrective/preventive actions

    Education / Qualifications


    • The post holder will have a relevant degree and/or relevant Project Management Office experience.
    • The ability to get things done by influencing others (both internal and external).
    • An up to date knowledge of regulatory guidelines is desirable.
    • Knowledge of capabilities and expertise of the Covance organisation and companies that may provide support services.
    • Commercial awareness, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
    • Be accredited to (and maintain) or be working towards Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) status.
    • Learn and maintain knowledge of process excellence processes, tools and activities.


    • Industry experience in a relevant field.
    • Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Office packages and Micro.soft Project).
    • The post holder should be able to communicate effectively at all levels with other Covance employees, as well as external clients, suppliers, etc.
    • Proven ability to prioritize and manage time
