We are now currently recruiting for a Project Manager to be based within our Harrogate and York site.   This is a growing team which offers great career progression.


Working as part of the Global Project Management Office (PMO), the Project Manager (PM) routinely manages a range of projects throughout the course of the project lifecycle. In this role the PM will provide internal and external Clients with a central point of contact for projects within BioPharmaceutical CMC Solutions (BioPharm CMC). The individual is accountable for leading the Project teams to ensure that Client requirements and deliverables are met. This involves end to end management of a project, encompassing effective management of Client communication and use of the appropriate tools to ensure the success of projects throughout their lifecycle.


  • Ensure effective cross-functional teamwork among project team members
  • Monitor project schedule and scope to ensure both remain on track. Initiate and implement appropriate actions
  • Accountable for budget across assigned project(s) including the control of revenue, forecasting and invoicing
  • Proactively identify out of scope activities and execute necessary change orders
  • Proactively engage in risk management activities to ensure project deliverables are met according to both Covance and client requirements
  • Present at external and/or internal meetings
  • Ensure client satisfaction
  • Create required project plans. Implement and monitor progress against project plans and revise as necessary.
  • Responsible for appropriate issue escalation to CAIR program and/or appropriate stakeholder(s). Serve as escalation point for project issues
  • Serve as key client contact for assigned projects
  • Establish working relationships with client project teams which result in client satisfaction, operational excellence and thereby increase potential for repeat business
  • In collaboration with relevant departments, develop costings and proposals and prepare and deliver presentations for new business as required
  • Ensure lessons learned are implemented across projects currently being managed
  • Identify and following approval, initiate the introduction of new processes and contribute to development and delivery of internal projects within the PMO
  • Measure internal and Client specific KPIs/KRIs & metrics and analyse such measures to calibrate the success of a project
  • Perform other duties as assigned by managementThe PM will be required to utilise excellent communication skills to liaise with internal and external project teams, departmental management and the Client to ensure effective progress throughout the life cycle of a project. Strong interpersonal skills are required as is the ability to negotiate with both internal and external Clients. The ability to identify specific project requirements and engage the appropriate subject matter experts / resource in accordance with the project milestones is a key aspect of this role.
  • The post holder will report to the Senior Project Manager on a daily basis (a permanent change of supervisor will be documented in training records).

Education / Qualifications

  • The post holder will have a relevant degree and/relevant Project Management experience.
  • The ability to get things done by influencing others (both internal and external).
  • An up to date knowledge of regulatory guidelines is desirable.
  • Knowledge of capabilities and expertise of the Covance organisation and companies that may provide support services.
  • Commercial awareness, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Be accredited to or working towards Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) status.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of process excellence processes, tools and activities.


The post holder should typically have:

• Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Project)

• An in-depth understanding of health and safety policies, Company policies and procedures, and an in-depth understanding of the GxPs

• The post holder should be able to communicate effectively at all levels with other Covance employees, as well as external clients, suppliers, etc

• Industry experience in a relevant field

• Working knowledge of project management processes
